Birmingham Lord Mayor attended the Birmingham Youth Sports Academy (BYSA) project the boys and girls project over the weekend at Small Heath Wellbeing Centre Saturday morning the boys football which had over 150 plus kids in attendance ages from 7-16 playing football indoor and outdoor by our volunteers who are all FA qualified and DBS checked. The Lord Mayor was impressed of what he saw and then spoke to the kids and understood that no kid supported their own home team Birmingham City FC or Aston Villa FC and hopes for the BYSA to do more work with the local clubs and get the kids within the BYSA to support and be apart of their own local club.
Thereafter the Lord Mayor was impressed and surprised that the BYSA offers services and sports to Female Football which is held at Saltley wellbeing Centre every Sunday mornings by female volunteers also FA qualified that have approximately 40 plus girls that attend and take part in a fun action packed session which is designed to their abilities. The session is headed by Head coach Amina Begum and Ummanaz Ali that have worked hard to build the BYSA girls project over the past year and its moved from strength to strength as the Lord Mayor witnessed for his own eyes and was extremely happy with what he was seeing and hopes to help the BYSA achieve more with their local clubs & to do more with the BYSA.
This was not only enjoyed watching everyone have a great time playing football but it will be a memorable day to remember as the kids have never seen anyone important make an appearance like the way the Lord Mayor did and the kids were so excited to see and chat to the Lord Mayor up close and personal. As discussed the BYSA covers a lot more than just offering playing football we also mentor them, show leadership skills, responsibility, guide them to employment and offer work placement or experience and so forth.
The Lord Mayor stated and made a passionate speech as follows: He is delighted to see so many kids having a great time and keeping fit, getting involved, and wold like to see one day a kid from the BYSA or Birmingham based playing for England or our local professional football clubs, overall weldone all round to kids, parents, staff, sponsors and volunteers for making the BYSA what it is today and celebrating 15 years running.
