Former chariman

Iqbal Khattak 2002-2005

As the founding chairman along with my brother Anwar Khattak who has dedicated majority of his life in making a difference to the community. It gives me great pleasure to see how far the organisation has come, from its humble beginnings in 2002 with next to no funding, to now being an official partner with TSB and the support from local businesses. We have seen the organisation grow from having 10 children to hundreds of boys and girls taking part. I feel proud to say that our vision has now become a reality and we are excited to see where it will lead to.

Dr Rab Khan 2005-2008

I was a senior manager at GSK Lucozade plant, as an industrial specialist and as a fellow of Cranfield University. Taking over as chairman, I oversaw the educational/ career development of the youth. This enabled me to be involved in improving the youth academically and give them advice to inspire them to go on to further education. Furthermore I was honoured to see the organisation grow and I am very proud to see what it has achieved.

Nisar Khattak 2008-2011

I am a solicitor/ high court advocate with extensive experience within the legal field. I have supported a number of charities over the years and was honoured to join the BYSA, it was my great pleasure to give my input and launch the charity dinners which have become a staple in funding the organisation and have allowed for great partnerships with other reputable organisations. My experience at BYSA was enjoyable and seeing where it is today gives me great joy.

Zaheer Afzal 2011-2014

As a former Chairman of BYSA it is nice to look back and feel very proud of the progress made by this team of extra special Brummies.  Their outstanding voluntary service has made the BYSA such an amazing force for good within the City of Birmingham.  The Queen’s Award for voluntary groups is a true reflection of the high quality of development work carried out by the team at BYSA. I am proud that BYSA does fulfil its motto of ‘Making Birmingham Better’  by bringing young people into a positive and nurturing environment where the wellbeing of the child is paramount.

Majid Salim 2014-2017

I was proud to be the chairman of BYSA foundation during which the academy received numerous awards and recognitions.  Further, in 2014 the girls academy was launched and it has gone from strength to strength. I am still proud to be involved with BYSA as a honorary chairman and to acknowledge how far it’s come in the last 2 years with the development of the mentoring programme and tuitions. I wish all at BYSA the very best for the future.

Amer Awan 2017-2020

It has been a great pleasure serving as the chairman of BYSA foundation. These past years we have achieved tremendous success in introducing key new initiatives to help our youth with life skills as well as football and fitness. I am immensely proud to have lead this great community initiative alongside my dedicated committee of volunteers. I would like to say a huge thank you to our past chairmans as their input was greatly appreciated. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved and I am very confident that the BYSA will go onto achieve great heights.

Anwar Khattak BEM 2020-2022

Being the founder and taking on the post for chairman at a time of hardship namely the covid-19 pandemic it was a massive challenge not knowing much about the future of the organisation, however this gave me and my volunteers the opportunity to go on video link/facetime and liaise with our members, gave us time to prepare and work on governance, we are now a CIO foundation, forming partnerships, further networking and reaching out to others and much more the list goes on. Its been a pleasure and honour to serve this amazing charity which is more than just sports.

Jimmy shabir-2022-2023

I want to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to the board & committee of the BYSA and also the Chair Paul Cadman for allowing me the opportunity to represent BYSA this past 12 months.

BYSA is an amazing organisation and represents what is good in our city and has made me immensely proud to have been a co-chair alongside Paul Cadman who I know will be a force for good for BYSA.

I will continue to support BYSA and the team from the sidelines and thank you for the opportunity.
