Birmingham Youth Sports Academy first project was to Manchester United on the 21/06/2008 for a stadium tour and a training session where 80 young people and 10 volunteer adults took part.
Firstly, we met at Small Heath Leisure Centre at 8am for registration; we then left at 8:30am for Manchester United, got there for 10:15am and signed in at reception. The first tour was at 10:30am (group 1) and the other at 11:00am (group 2). The groups were separated in their age groups.
The tour covered the whole of the stadium plus the museum and the mega store. This part of the tour finished at 1:00pm when we had lunch and soon after set off to the Cliff training ground arriving at 2:15pm where the kids took part in a 2 hour training session by professional staff followed by a game.
At 4:15pm the session finished with certificates and prizes for the kids and we left for home at 4:30pm arriving back to Birmingham at 6:30pm where the parents were waiting to collect their kids.
The feedback from kids and parents was very positive as everyone enjoyed the trip and had a wonderful time. It was a day out and a trip to remember as none of the kids had experienced anything like it before.
